10-14 December Ausland Berlin

Trockenschwimmen is a series of ausland which is closely connected to the way ausland was built: due to financial reason a lot of work for the the soundproofing and ventilation construction site was done by ourselves, relying on manuals, good friends, lots of curiosity and quick and problem oriented learning… after we opened the venue we decided to follow this path and share what we learned about learning. Trockenschwimmen came into existence: Workshops revolving around technic and art, very concrete, often, but not always. Workshops about basic knowledge about sound, light and electricity, mostly involving hands on work with technical devices, constructing and hacking.
In this Trockenschwimmen Workshop we invite 5 artists to assemble together with participants the Biotec Life Orchestra:
With the BLO ausland is changed into an electro-acoustic jungle, made out of plants connected to electrical current, as living instruments, playing stand alone and manipulated by players, possibly manipulating players, musicians connected to plants, audience connected to musicians. The workshop is planned from monday to friday with a presentation friday night.

Concerts, Performances, Workshop, Celebration
In CC we want to present artists in the context of their production methods and social responsibility. The networking of small, solidaristic working structures was always a concern for ausland. When building the venue 10 years ago a collective of performers and musicians found itself planning the ventilation, soundproofing the room and dealing with construction licencing procedures etc… This was only doable with lots of curiosity, manuals, mutual support and professional advice of good friends. As in the production of music – especially in the experimental field – where the exchange between musicians is essential to develop new fascinating projects, performances and sounds.
Therefore we want to celebrate musicians and artists who are especially collective conscious, and who emphasize sharing, knowledge transfer, building structures which can be used by others in their work.
The festival starts with a concert and performance weekend at Sophiensaele, then moves over to ausland for a 5 day workshop, in which an orchestra of plants and self-built electronic instruments is built. The festival ends with a concert of the plant orchestra and “Astroturf”, a festive performance event, where artists of the festival will have the chance to meet and some of them perform in new constellations. During the festival there will be radioshows revolving around the many forms ( i mean: flowers… Blütentreiben) that the work of collective conscious artists produced: both the ones performing in the festival and the many artists and groups we could not invite.
